‘In Association with Star TV'

The market for ethnic foods and rice is one of the fastest growing sectors within the UK food and drinks market. Research released earlier this year estimates it was worth around £1.64bn in 2009, a 10.4 per cent increase on 2008.

Spurred on by increased migration and a greater appreciation of other culture's food, big growth areas recently include Eastern European and Halal products, while the already well established Chinese, Indian, Asian and Afro-Caribbean markets continue to go from strength to strength.

The World Food Awards, now in their 3rd year, have firmly established themselves as a focal point of the UK world food calendar, attracting industry leaders and showcasing the very best the sector has to offer. By rewarding and celebrating excellence, the awards aim to further propel the industry into the mainstream and, in turn, raise the bar of expectations. The awards recognise the very best standards, rewarding the highest levels of service, initiative and commitment.

The awards are the flagship event of the World Foods Association (WFA), a trade body representing UK companies that operate in the markets of ethnic food service, covering products from Asian, Oriental, African, Afro-Caribbean, European, East-European, Middle Eastern, South American and Mediterranean countries.

This year's ceremony was hosted by comedy legend Lenny Henry and took place on Saturday 1st October, 2011 at London's Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane featuring top class acts, a host of celebrities, sports personalities and acclaimed chefs to present the awards.

The event will be broadcast globally by Star TV on Saturday 5th November at 7pm on Star Plus (channel no. 784 on Sky & 803 on Virgin Media.)
