The
mission of the
World Foods Association is to bring
together the world food market for the
mutual benefit of all members and become
the promoter of the UK world food
industry as a whole.
Our aim is to share knowledge and
provide insight and practical help for
the benefit of all our members - from
guidance on rules, regulations and
issues that affect the industry to
creating networking opportunities
through a series of key events.
The World Food Awards is the
association's flagship annual event - a
national level awards ceremony that
identifies the best performers in the
World Food Service sector in Europe and
the United Kingdom.

Harry Dulai - Director, Surya, Co-organisers of The World Food Awards 2009
Surya
Foods is proud to be associated with
the World Food Awards. As one of the
leading global world food companies with
operations around the world we have long
felt that an awards ceremony to
celebrate and champion the talents of
our vibrant industry is long overdo and
we are thrilled to have finally realised
our vision of an awards ceremony to
exclusively celebrate the world food
industry in the UK.
Our
remit is clear; to ensure that the
ethnic food industry is recognised as
the important sector that it is, and to
move away from the 'corner shop'
mentality that was once the only
association with our industry. The
industry has moved on in leaps and
bounds and world food is now a thriving
and fast-paced industry that is crossing
over into mainstream markets. The idea
for these awards was born many years
ago, but it is with the help of Sony
Entertainment Television Asia that we
have finally been able to achieve this
and, in the process, make the awards one
of the biggest dates in the world food
calendar.
The World Food Awards is the flagship
event of the World Foods Association -
an organisation that Surya Foods helped
found recently, and one which we hope
will grow to become the hub of our
industry. This new trade body aims to
represent European companies that
operate within the ethnic food market.
During my years working in
this industry I have realised the
importance of networking and the
benefits to be gained from sharing
knowledge and information and I also
believe as a sector we are stronger when
working together.
We are proud to be associated with this
event and would like to congratulate
everyone involved for their efforts in
making this project come to life - from
the organisers, judges and sponsors to
the shortlisted companies that have all
received this concept with such
enthusiasm.
Rajan Singh, Executive Vice President International Business, Sony Entertainment Television Asia, Co-organisers of The World Food Awards 2009
Sony
Entertainment Television Asia takes
incredible pride in being a part of the
World Food Awards and would like to
thank the World Foods Association for
making us a part of this event.
As we all know, the UK is a remarkable
melting pot of cultures and with each
culture having its own distinct
language, traditions, customs and values
- food is the one thing that connects
them all.
The nation has embraced world cuisine,
with every other restaurant representing
food from a different region, renowned
chefs regularly using international
ingredients to fuse their dishes and
even national supermarket chains
devoting complete aisles to world food -
the industry has, without a doubt, made
its mark.
Despite the food industry taking great
strides to reflect the UK’s growing love
of world food, there has never been an
official event that recognises this
sector’s achievements. Until now.
The World Food Awards celebrates the
biggest achievers in this rapidly
growing industry and recognises the
impact that world food has made to the
way that we perceive what we eat. The
calibre of the 2009 nominees speaks
volumes for the direction the industry
is heading.
